Receives funding from district attorney's office for increased patrols

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that she has earmarked funding for the Long Beach Police Department to increase DWI patrols in Long Beach over the July 4 weekend.

Singas is providing $5,000 for the patrols, which will start Friday and run through Monday night. Last year, Long Beach police reported 10 arrests for DWI offenses over the holiday weekend.

“The city’s Police Department continues to crack down on drunk driving,” City Councilman Scott Mandel said in a statement. “The LBPD works hard every day to ensure that our streets are safe for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. We sincerely thank District Attorney Singas for recognizing and assisting the city’s efforts.”

“We take the life threatening act of DWI very seriously and will be out in full force thanks to the funding from Ms. Singas,” added Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney.
