Bellmore home invaders dressed as construction workers; one injured in attack

Posted

Three black men wearing hard hats, construction vests and dust masks robbed an Ellen Road home in south Bellmore on Friday morning, tying up the hands and feet of two homeowners and three actual construction workers who were doing work on the home at the time, according to Nassau County police.

At press time at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3, the suspects remained at large.

The male homeowner was struck on the head by a handgun and was later rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a gray van may have been involved, and the home may have been targeted for cash and jewelry.

Police sent officers to investigate the Ellen Road robbery at 10:49 a.m. The Bellmore Elementary School District and Kennedy High School in south Bellmore issued lockout orders at roughly 11:15 a.m. after Nassau County police reported the home invasion. The Bellmore District and Kennedy High lifted the orders at 12:30 p.m.

Kennedy takes in students from south Bellmore and south Merrick. A representative of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District said students would not be allowed to leave the school building during the lockout because of "extensive police activity" in the vicinity of the school, including a police helicopter or helicopters flying overhead. The representative said parents should not come to the school to take their children, as they were safe where they were. Only police or fire officials would be allowed into the building in an emergency.
