First Ladies of the U.S. lecture

Come learn about all of the first ladies — from Martha Washington to Michelle Obama — at the Elmont Memorial Library on March 3 at 12:30 p.m. Each first lady has interesting and informative facts that have contributed to their legacies. Guests will also learn about the responsibilities associated with the Office of the First Lady.

Video game night

Teens from sixth grade to high school seniors can play video games such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Guitar Hero and Mario Kart on March 3 at 6 p.m. at the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library. Prizes will be given out to the winners and light refreshments will be served. Registration is required, with preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders. Defensive driving course

On March 6 and Tuesday March 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Elmont Memorial Library will be holding a defensive driving course. Participants must attend both classes to receive 10 percent off of their auto insurance. A $27 check must be made to the Empire Safety Council to take the course. Registration may be done in-person or online, but registration is required.

Jazzin’ it up

Two up and coming young jazz artists hit the stage at the Madison Theatre, in Rockville Centre, Saturday, March 4.  Vincent Ingala has been wow-ing audiences with his tenor sax on the smooth jazz festival and cruise circuit for several years. He brings a playful spirit, an old soul and youthful enthusiasm to his music. Saxophonist-singer-composer Grace Kelly has transitioned from jazz prodigy to in-demand full fledged musician. Bustin’ out of the zoo

Those animals are on the move again. Get ready to “Move It” as the personable residents of the Central Park Zoo come to life in BroadHollow Theatre’s stage adaptation of the hit movie, at their venue in Elmont, Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5. Following along with Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo as they find themselves on a ship heading across the Pacific Ocean.
