Merrick's Empire Hose Company hosts a tree sale
Scott Brinton/Herald Life
Ron Luparello, left, the Merrick Fire Department’s public information officer and a former chief, helped the Goldstein family of Bellmore, including Andrew, his wife, Susan, and their daughter, Makenzie, select the perfect tree.

The parking lot was full at the Merrick Fire Department’s Empire Hose Company on Merrick Avenue last weekend when the company held its annual Christmas tree and wreath sale, which serves as a department fundraiser.

Dozens of Merrick-Bellmore residents streamed into the Empire Company’s back lot, which was full of freshly cut evergreens for sale. The Goldstein family of Bellmore was among the shoppers on Sunday. “We come here every year for a tree,” said Andrew Goldstein. “It’s a great place.”

The tree sale will continue until supplies run out. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and 6 to 9 p.m. on weekdays.
