N. Merrick civic group to hold meeting on water rate hike Sept. 20

Posted

The North and Central Merrick Civic Association and LI Clean Air Water & Soil will host a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the North Merrick Public Library at 7 p.m. to discuss a possible water-rate hike.

The NCMCA is inviting the public to join the meeting to help organize opposition to the increase proposed by Long Island American Water. The meeting will include a discussion on American Water’s proposal to raise the average resident’s water bill from 9.9 percent to 55.9 percent. First Precinct officers will also attend to discuss any updates on criminal activity within the community.

The Public Service Commission is now scheduling a second hearing on the potential hike in late October. For more information, visit www.licaws.org or email NCMCA President Claudia Borecky at Claudia@licaws.org.
