In two days, two motorcyclists crashed in the Bellmore-Merrick area. One was killed, and the second was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition, according to Nassau County police.

On Thursday, Brian Sammons, 21, of Merrick, was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Newbridge Road in Bellmore when he struck a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu that had made a right turn from Oak Street onto Newbridge Road, heading south, authorities said.

Sammons was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene. The 23-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene until police arrived. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks. No criminality was involved, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing.

In the second accident, a female motorcyclist was riding on Merrick Road around 7:50 p.m. on Friday when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed near Babylon Turnpike in Merrick, police said.

According to officials, she was airlifted by police helicopter to a nearby hospital. No further details were available at press time on Saturday.
