A Merrick woman was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of prescription drugs with her children in the car, after she struck another vehicle on Merrick Road on Monday, according to Nassau County police.

Kathryn Naccari, 37, of Meadowbrook Road, was driving a 2013 Honda Accord south on Babylon Road. She attempted to make a left turn onto Merrick Road when her vehicle collided with a 2010 GMS Arcade headed east on Merrick Road. Naccari had her 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in the car, secured in car seats, at the time of the crash, police said.

The driver of the GMC was rushed to a nearby hospital with back injuries.

Naccari’s children were released to a family member at the scene. An order of protection was issued against Naccari to ensure that she is not around her children when she is under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.

Naccari was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, two counts of aggravated DWI with children younger than 16 in the vehicle and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Naccari pleaded not guilty at her April 12 arraignment. Her driver’s license was returned to her, said her attorney Cory Morris, of Suffolk County. He had no further comment.

Bail was set at $5,000, cash or bond.
