Record 23 Mepham athletes sign with colleges

A record 23 Mepham High School student-athletes have committed to play sports in college.

Their commitments were announced during a ceremony in the Mepham auditorium on May 15, attended by the students’ families and other well-wishers. Principal Michael Harrington spoke at the event. “We have never, ever had 23 athletes commit to play college athletics,” Harrington said.

Addressing the athletes, Harrington said that college sports are “a lot of work, but the lessons you will learn will carry on through your life. “

He also noted that the student-athletes will head in different directions to play for different colleges, but “you’ll always wear the garnet and gray and be a Pirate at heart,” a reference to the school’s mascot.
