In Italian, “vivo” means alive, vivid and vivacious, which is why management chose the name for their new salon. Thanks to a well-chosen team of artists, each of whom is passionate about his or her craft, clients have been claiming that they walk out feeling more alive and revived.

Maggie Pokher and Olga Hyman worked together for many years in a Long Beach salon. They chose to team up and open their own salon because they wanted to do things their way. Providing a place where customers would feel welcome and relaxed while getting great service was their ultimate goal. “We want people to feel at home here.”

As in any salon, the people behind it are what make it. Owner and colorist Maggie has been working with hair since before she moved to the United States from Ecuador, 20 years ago. Using high quality products paired with advanced techniques, she delivers beautiful color without damaging the hair. Maggie’s partner, Olga, who does everything from haircuts to bridal, has been working in the industry for over ten years. She masters her craft through experience and ongoing education. By keeping abreast with trends and new techniques, she thrives to always satisfy her clientele.

Norma Ramirez does hair styling, make-up and color. Her passion is to make people feel beautiful. She comes to Vivo with a decade of experience, having worked at salons in Long Beach and Oceanside. Stephanie Maglio is a colorist who has been working with hair since 2005. She believes that an important factor in achieving great hair color is a thorough consultation. Anthony Pepino is disciplined, creative, fun and energetic. He has worked for in the industry for six years. Others refer to him as a stylist with a knack for finding the right haircut for anyone.

Besides styling, cuts and color, Vivo offers hair extensions, Balayage, hair relaxing, IQ serum and other texture services like permanents. They do children’s hair as well.

Eager to stay involved with the community and to help charities, the staff at Vivo Salon is currently working on a Cut-a-thon Benefit for the Long Island Chapter of Mustaches for Kids. All profits will be donated to Pediatric Care at Sloan Kettering. In Mustaches for Kids, which was started in 1999 in California, participating men cannot shave off their mustaches for a month, and solicit donations, just as one would in a charitable walk-a-thon.

The salon is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from noon to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Upcoming events and special offers can be found on its Facebook page. Once on Facebook, go to the search box and type in: Vivo Salon NY.
