Van catches fire outside Merrick Ave. Middle School

A van carrying a mother and her child burst into flames outside Merrick Avenue Middle School around 8:30 a.m. on May 1. The two escaped the fire unharmed. Volunteers from the North Merrick Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the blaze, which consumed the vehicle in flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported, according to North Merrick fire officials.
