The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School Board of Education announced on Wednesday that Gerard Owenburg would be the next principal at John F. Kennedy High School.

Owenberg will take over for David Seinfeld, who has been serving as acting principal since longtime principal Lorraine Poppe took a leave of absence last September.

“I have tremendous pride in the Kennedy community and look forward to working with our families to provide a rich and caring high school experience for every student,” said Owenburg.

Owenburg has served as one of the Kennedy High School assistant principals for the past decade.

“Mr. Owenburg is a caring, child-centered educator who is well-liked by our students and highly respected by our faculty and staff,” Seinfeld said. “I firmly believe that Mr. Owenburg will lead this incredible school to even greater heights in the months and years to come.”

Owenburg will take over as principal, effective July 1.
