Yet another water main was flooding the streets of Oceanside, the third this month. This time water was pouring forth on Lawrence Avenue in the vicinity of Virginia Avenue, Henrietta Avenue and Thompson Avenue according to Ed Scharfberg of the Oceanside Fire Department. New York American Water, Nassau County Police, Oceanside Fire under the command of Chief John Madden, and the Town of Hempstead Highway Department were all on scene. According to Lawrence Ave. resident Denise Rothman parts of the street collapsed.

New York American Water Vice President of Operations, Christopher Buday said “The break poses no health risks to residents. New York American Water proactively shut off water service to the approximately 15 homes affected and are working efficiently to repair the main break. The damaged pipe is an 8-inch, cast iron main installed in 1956.

New York American Water is offering bottled water to families currently without water service and is working diligently to ensure service is restored to those customers as soon as possible.
