The Friedberg JCC in Oceanside held a free Health and Wellness Expo on Jan. 31 that features activities for both children and adults.

David Goldstein, the assistant executive director of the JCC said Sparky, the Islanders Mascot was there for the kids along with a 15-year-old table tennis star, a chance to try an obstacle course with JCC fitness trainers and wonderful hot muffins right from the oven.

Adults learned about healthier living, Goldstein added. They were offered the opportunity to receive a 10-minute relaxing chair massage, receive blood pressure screenings and explore healthy eating.

Battleropes, a new fitness workout that involves lifting and slamming large heavy ropes into the air and back on the ground was demonstrated. “The key to their effectiveness is that they work each arm independently, eliminating strength imbalances as they sculpt your muscle,” John Brookfield, creator of the original battleropes system, said in Men’s Health magazine.
