Nassau County police arrested an Island Park man on Tuesday after he allegedly shot a man outside an Austin Boulevard restaurant-bar and fled the scene. According to detectives, the incident occurred on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m., when 47-year-old Angel Martinez approached a 36-year-old Long Beach man at the Costa Del Sol Restaurant and Bar, located at 4547 Austin Blvd.

According to police, Martinez had asked the man to step outside to speak with him. Once outside, police said Martinez shot the victim in the abdomen and fled the scene.

Police said that the wounded victim, whose name was not released, had walked home after the shooting before a friend called the Long Beach Police Department at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 13. According to police, the male caller said that his friend had been shot and that he was at his residence in Long Beach.

Police officers were dispatched to the victim’s home, where he told police that he had been shot at a restaurant and bar in Island Park earlier that night, and had walked home. Police did not immediately provide details about the nature of the confrontation between two men.

The Long Beach Fire Department took the victim to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.
