Oceanside fireman elected association’s VP

Life-long Oceanside resident and Oceanside Fire Department member Steven Klein was recently elected as 2nd Vice President of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) at the association’s annual convention.

Klein joined the Oceanside Fire Department in 1965. He immediately became active in all aspects of the department, serving on many committees. He held many offices in his company, Terrace Hose & Chemical Co. #3, and with the Oceanside Fire Department, ultimately serving as chief of department in 1984.

Klein continued to serve also on the county level and is a past president of the Fire Chiefs’ Council of Nassau County, The Nassau County Firemen’s Association. He has served on the Nassau County Fire Commission, and is a past chairman of the 2nd Battalion Fire District.

Klein joined FASNY in the late 1960’s and was appointed to the Fire Prevention (now the Fire Prevention and Life Safety) Committee. In 2002, he was elected Trustee of the Firemen’s Home and was reelected in 2007 and served until 2012. During his term on the board, Klein served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for seven years. He has been a director of the FASNY Foundation since 2003, and has served as president of the board.

Retired from the USPS, Klein is a father of two and a grandfather of three. His son, Kevin, currently serves as an assistant chief in the Oceanside Fire Department. Steve Klein is a graduate of Oceanside Senior High School and SUNY Farmingdale.
