Super Bowl brings summer to Kiwanians

Posted

For most Oceansiders, Super Bowl Sunday marks the end of football season with food-filled parties and spirited television viewing. But for Oceanside Kiwanis, Super Bowl Sunday means pancakes and summer camp.

For more than 15 years, Oceanside Kiwanis has been raising money at its Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast to send local children in need to Kamp Kiwanis in upstate Taberg NY. And this year was no different! Cold gray skies hovered above a dusting of light snow outside. But inside St. Anthony’s cafeteria, things were heating up.

From the golden pancakes on the griddle to the prize-packed Touchdown Raffle Table to the carnival games in the Kiwanis Kids Korner sponsored by Nassau Financial Federal Credit Union. It was non-stop food and fun. And after the pancakes had all been eaten and the prizes had all been won, Kiwanis had raised the money needed to insure a week of summer camp filled with happy memories for nearly a dozen youngsters..

Special thanks to all those businesses and individuals who sponsored tables and placemat ads for the Breakfast. – and to the Oceanside Federation of Teachers whose “Happy Kamper” table donation will cover the entire cost of sending one child for a week at Kamp Kiwanis.
