A man accidentally shot himself and his doctor in an Oceanside office.

The shooting happened on April 27 at 10:22 a.m. at the office of podiatrist Dr. Matthew Nester on 3227 Long Beach Road. According to Nassau County Police, a patient at the office accidentally discharged his gun.

The patient, a 77-year-old retired New York City Police officer, was showing the doctor a briefcase of guns. When the patient removed a 10 mm semi-automatic pistol, he accidentally shot himself in the thigh. The bullet continued through his leg and struck Nester in the right foot.

Police said the weapon was licensed to the retired officer.

Both men were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police do not suspect any criminality at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
