Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department volunteer firefighters honored by State Sen. Elaine Phillips

On July 17, State Sen. Elaine Phillips, a Republican from Manhasset, visited the Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department to honor two local volunteer firefighters, former Chief Anthony DePietro and Firefighter/EMS Justin Pons for their outstanding contributions to the community as part of her series of First Responder Day Dedications.

"It was a great pleasure to present former Chief Tony DePietro and Firefighter/EMS Justin Pons with certificates of recognition for their devoted service to the public and to meet with their colleagues and families at the fire station," said Senator Phillips. "As State Senator, one of my top priorities is ensuring that all our first responders are acknowledged for their commitment and dedication to protecting our local community."

EMS Award recipient Firefighter Justin Pons has been serving the Franklin Square and Munson community sinc 2008. He is an active member on both Emergency Medical Service and Firematic alarms. He also serves as the Assistant Director of the EMS squad. He's been cited multiple times over the course of the last nine years for his actions, while on EMS alarms as well as driving upon a scene of a motor vehicle accident, in his personal vehicle, that was caused by a driver suffering a heart attack. It is with his knowledge, dedication and leadership that the EMS squad is able to provide quality care to the Franklin Square and surrounding communities.

Firematic Award recipient Ex-Chief Anthony DePietro has been serving the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department since 1969. He rose through the ranks serving as Lieutenant and Captain of Engine Company No. 2, Second Assistant Chief, First Assitant Chief, and Chief of the fire department on two separate occasions (from 1977-79 and 1987-89). DePietro also served as the commissioner of the fire district, Chairman o f the Training Committee, the Benevolent Committee, and the EMS squad. He has been cited for bravery at fire alarms. He currently serves as on of the department's Incident Safety Officers, and Fire Police members, ensuring the safety of all at a scene. It is with  his knowledge, experience, guidance, leadership and dedication with DePietro providing services to the Franklin Square and surrounding communities.
