Kicking off a brand new partnership this October, Peak Performance Physical Therapy in Island Park is joining forces with the Maurer Foundation, a breast cancer awareness non-profit that focuses much of its outreach on Oceanside High School students.

“It’s our first year,” said Peak Performance marketing and social media specialist Amanda Nieto of the joint effort. “And we hope it’s the first of many years.” Between a corporate donation from the company, which also has locations in Lynbrook, New Hyde Park and Wantagh, and contributions from employees, the physical therapy group sponsored two outreach classes in Oceanside and Lynbrook.

In addition to donations, Peak Performance employees wore pink on Oct. 25 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “They’re all very enthusiastic,” Nieto said of the physical therapists.

The Maurer Foundation organizes breast cancer education programs at local school, university and corporate locations, providing vital information on how to reduce the risk for breast cancer as well as the most effective methods for early detection.

Maurer Foundation Executive Director Susan Samaroo said the partnership with Peak Performance seemed like a natural fit for the two organizations, both of which focus on health and wellness. “It’s wonderful to see local companies give back to the community,” she said and added that through her organization’s outreach programs, donations are guaranteed to stay in the community.
