County police reported the arrest of a Rockville Centre man on May 14, for allegedly threatening to bring a gun to an Oceanside school.

Officers said that Kenneth Geller, 72, was seen outside Oceanside’s School No. 6 kindergarten center where he reportedly told school staff that he was there to pick up his grandson. When asked to reproduce identification for security reasons, Geller allegedly said he would return to his car to retrieve both ID as well as a gun.

Upon his return to the building, Geller was alleged to have repeatedly pressed the entrance doorbell while covering its security camera with his hand, at which point school staff called police.

Officers said Geller was arrested without incident and was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear on May 23 at the district court house in Hempstead.

Shortly after, Oceanside schools released a statement saying that after notifying them, police had determined Geller not to be a serious threat, and “at no time were any students or adults in danger.”
