Jeremiah Johnson, 38, of Springfield Gardens, Queens, was arrested on June 18 after a police officer noticed he failed to signal a lane change.

According to Nassau County police, an officer on patrol saw a white Ford Ecoline van fail to signal a lane change while driving eastbound on Green Acres Road. When the officer pulled Johnson over, he fled the scene and ran over the officer’s right foot. The officer then said he saw Johnson commit multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, causing two accidents without stopping and then struck the officer’s vehicle before coming to a complete stop at the intersection of Alden Avenue and Bee Street in Valley Stream. Detectives said that Johnson then exited the vehicle abruptly, causing a loaded .357 Magnum revolver to fall out of the vehicle.

Officers said they located Johnson on Rottkamp Street, and after a struggle he was arrested at 6 p.m. The weapon was recovered and secured by officers.

Johnson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, obstructing government administration, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, resisting arrest and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned on June 19 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
