More than 48 years after the inaugural season of the Mill Pond Ice Hockey League (circa 1963-69), this is great news. We didn't have all the equipment, and used to drag a very heavy goal made of makeshift water pipe from Ron and Bernie Schlameuss's garage on Spruce and Mill Rd down to the pond. We were a very enthusiastic bunch, skating all evening during the week and all day on weekends... and even into the evening after our resident engineering wannabe Ron (our goalie) inserted tiny lights into a regulation puck. We lost too many of those into the unfrozen end of the pond. We had the time of our young lives playing in the open air and imitating our NY Ranger heroes. Here's wishing the new hockey league all the best while enjoying the greatest sport ever.
