Jerome Coopersmith has held many titles in his lifetime, and now, at 94, he can add a noble one to the list. On Nov. 12, the Rockville Centre resident was honored with the highest distinction of Chevalier, or Knight, in the National Order of the French Legion of Honor in recognition of his service to France in World War II.

The Tommy Brull Foundation has announced the latest concert in its Shine A Light Music Series to benefit Mr. B’s Playground. On Dec. 28, folk-rock band The Felice Brothers and singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson, a Rockville Centre native, will perform at RJ Daniels.
Watson has a new acting principal
Floyd B. Watson Elementary School has a new leader. Jennifer Pascarella, longtime assistant principal of South Side Middle School, has become the acting principal at Watson, a job she said she was happy to have.
Breast Cancer Coalition party raises $35K
The Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition hosted its third annual Black & White Cocktail Party fundraiser on Oct. 4 at EGP Gastropub in Oceanside, with 460 people in attendance. The event is the coalition’s largest annual fundraiser, which brought in an estimated $35,000 this year.
RVC residents oppose SAFE Banking Act
As health concerns over vaping and marijuana usage grow, members of the Rockville Centre community are taking action to curb the epidemic before it gets worse. Last week, a group of concerned parents, substance abuse professionals, and law enforcement members held a news conference on Front Street in Rockville Centre urging Senators Kristen Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer to oppose efforts to extend banking access to the marijuana industry.
