Rockville Centre Express finishes big
Rockville Centre girls U13 soccer team, the RVC Express, had an extremely successful 2011 both on and off the field. With the girls finishing their fall season on top of Long Island Junior Division 1, they were able to advance to play in the Eastern New York Premier League this spring. Express finished the season with 6 wins, 2 losses and one tie. The team also competed in several high-level tournaments where they had outstanding results. The Express began the 2011 spring season with a second-place finish in their group at the Manhattan Pre-Season Kick Off. They went on to third place in Division 1 in LIJ league play. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the team traveled to the prestigious FC Delco Players Cup where they again finished second in their group, not losing a game in either event. The team trained hard all summer to prepare for another season in the very competitive LIJ Division I. After a challenging start, losing their first two league games, Express fought back hard and did not lose another game all season. Express won their group at the Columbus Day weekend Discovery Cup Tournament in Maryland, winning all three of their games and giving up only 2 goals. They played a well-fought game but lost 3-1 in the finals. Aside from their accomplishments on the field, the RVC Express girls participated in several community service projects during the year. Many of the team members enjoyed volunteering in the RVC TOPS soccer program for players with special needs this past spring. Team members also participate in the Adopt A Family program every year during the holiday season. The RVC Express has been trained by Tim Bradbury since 2008 and is coached by Tom McNicholas and Amy Sherlock. They are gearing up for their next challenge in the Premier League. At the top of their game The Rockville Centre Rebels Girls U11 soccer team placed first in their division in the East Meadow World Cup Tournament. Elizabeth Crosby was named most valuable player. Coached by Christopher Chruma and Jarlath Byrne, who is not pictured, the girls have had an undefeated winter season.
