Mercy seeks ‘patient navigator’ volunteers Mercy Medical Center is offering a unique opportunity for mature adults who have a passion for helping others to volunteer the gift of their time as a Patient Navigator for individuals undergoing treatment for cancer. Participants in this newly established program will assist cancer patients in finding their way through the complexities of arranging the treatments they require and obtaining the broad array of support services that are available to them. No prior experience is required. Participants will receive necessary training but must commit to volunteering a minimum of four hours per week. The first training session will be conducted on Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, call 516-62MERCY.

92nd Street Y

The congregation of B'nai Sholom Beth David, 100 Hempstead Ave. kicks off its Spring 2012 program of simulcasts from the 92nd Street Y on Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. with Lawrence Summers and Thane Rosenbaum. As economic concerns weigh heavily on Americans’ minds, Summers shares his thoughts on the debt and housing crisis, the collapse and bailout of Wall Street, the economic stimulus initiatives, free trade, globalization, anti-Semitism and perhaps even the upcoming presidential election. Summers was director of President Obama’s National Economic Council, Secretary of the Treasury in the Clinton administration, and former president of Harvard University. Thane Rosenbaum is a novelist and law professor at Fordham University and the director of the Forum on Law, Culture and Society. Tickets are $15 for a single admission; $36 for three, and $65 for six admissions ($50 for members of B'nai Sholom and Central Synagogue). Coffee and cake are included. "From My Hometown" —

at Molloy's Madison Theatre

On Feb. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m.; Feb. 4 at 2 and 8 p.m. and on Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. the Madison Theatre at Molloy College presents "From My Hometown." Circa 1980, three soul singers pack their bags and leave their hometowns for the world-famous Apollo Theatre. Each seeks escape from poverty, leaving behind family and a hometown sweetheart. Enjoy classic R&B hits including “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Working in a Coal Mine,” “Lonely Teardrops,” “Try a Little Tenderness,” and many more. Cast members include Todrick Hall from American Idol” and Matthew Johnson from “X Factor.”
