Avalon work delayed

AvalonBay Phase II received an extension of time at the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on Aug. 12.

“The original decision gave us six months to get building permits and one year to build,” said Michael Faltischek, the attorney for AvalonBay. “It took us almost five months to get the Planning Department to approve.” He said it was impossible to get the permits and construction done in the original timeframe, which started in January, when the Board of Zoning Appeals approved the complex.

AvalonBay now has until December to receive building permits and two years for construction. Right now, Faltischek said, they are preparing construction drawings in order to get a building permit.

Faltischek said Phase II would be ready in late 2017. The 165-unit building will be at 80 N. Centre Ave., at the former Rockville Racquet site, across the street from the existing 349-unit AvalonBay complex on Banks Avenue.
