Big acts coming to Jones Beach

Every year, Jones Beach becomes a seaside hub for summer concerts and festivals. This year boasts performances by artists Weezer, Pitbull and Iggy Azalea, and festivals such as the BLI Summer Jam and Taste of Chaos.

Radio station KTU 103.5 kicks off the lineup with its festival KTUphoria on Saturday, June 4. Featuring artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Mike Posner and the Backstreet Boys, this event celebrates the music KTU is known for playing year-round. KTUphoria features headliner Pitbull, who recently performed his newest single, “Mr. Bad Man,” at this year’s Grammys. The day after the festival, Jones Beach will host Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton, performing together at the beginning of a joint summer tour.

“Jones Beach is an ideal venue for summer concerts,” said Jeremy Rice, program director for 106.1 BLI’s Summer Jam, which will take place on Saturday, June 11. “This year is even more special for us because of the acts. These are the biggest headliners we’ve had to date.”

Rice added that he was excited to have the festival feature Meghan Trainor, Iggy Azalea, Fifth Harmony and Alessia Cara, among others. “You have to think — this artist is going to have a hit on the radio,” he said. “Other times you just have to take a chance.”

He discussed BLI’s meeting with Cara last spring. BLI representatives had decided to meet with her and her father for dinner, and a year later she had a hit sure to excite fans at the BLI Summer Jam.

The following week celebrates rock and metal, with Joe Walsh and Bad Company on Tuesday, June 14. Following their show, Jones Beach hosts country star Jason Aldean, with Thomas Rhett and A Thousand Horses. Their We Were Here tour is set for Friday, June 17.
