The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce held their monthly meeting on Sept. 13 at George Martin on Park Avenue. Local business leaders got together and discussed ways to collaborate and bring more business to their establishments.

President of the Chamber, Better Home Health Care’s Greg Schaefer, led the proceedings and announced raffle and business of the month winners. Valley National Bank’s Paul Cronen received recognition for Business of the Month, and Coach Realtors’ Barbara Goldfeder received the Platinum Business of the Month award.

Polka Dot Poundcake’s Lisa Umansky spearheaded a holiday scavenger hunt-like collaboration program called the Rockville Centre Snowman Hunt, where participating businesses will hide snowmen throughout their establishments for children to find and cash in for a chance to win prizes.

State Senator Todd Kaminsky stopped by to say a few words and answer questions. He praised the chamber and the community for their work. “Rockville Centre is by far the most vibrant community I’ve worked with,” he said. “Please consider me a partner.”

Afterwards he spoke with business leaders on a variety of topics from legislation regarding indoor vaping, to laws concerned with serving alcohol on Sundays and the legalization of marijuana.

He urged citizens to be patient and not let the legalization issue distract from the more urgent opioid epidemic. “Let’s wait a little bit and see how the other states who have legalized do,” he said. “We’ll get there.”
