Jenna Luvin, a former village resident, coordinated an event in Colorado on Nov. 30 to raise money for the Breezy Point Disaster Relief Fund.
“Bring it to the Borough,” took place at Mile High Spirits in Denver and featured free drinks, live music, raffle items and food. All the proceeds from the event went to the Breezy Point Disaster Relief Fund, created by Matthew Petronis.
Luvin said that the event raised nearly $3,000.
According to Jenna Luvin, a graduate of South Side High School and Binghamton University, more than 30 companies agreed to make donations for the event, including American Apparel.
“I hope this inspires all ex-RVCers to host events,” Luvin said. “It really isn’t difficult. The process is a great experience and no donation is too small.”
Luvin said part of the inspiration to create the event was her aunt and cousin being displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
“They lived in Island Park,” Luvin said, and they’ve been living at my house in Rockville Centre since. And even though I’m not donating to Island Park, my aunt’s face lit up at Thanksgiving when I told her what I was doing. It made everything worth it to me.”
