Jose Ponce-Castro, 26, of Long Beach, was arrested on Oct. 20 at 7:46 p.m. on several charges after punching three Lynbrook Police Department officers and resisting arrest.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, Lynbrook officers observed a gray 2003 Honda driven by Ponce-Castro as it ran through a red light at the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Olive Place. After pulling him over, officers discovered that Ponce-Castro had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

When the officers attempted to place him under arrest, Ponce-Castro wouldn’t comply. He flailed his arms up in the air and then punched three officers. One of the officers was later taken to a local hospital for treatment for left shoulder pain and lacerations to his shin and forearm, while there were no other injuries. After several minutes, the officers were able to place Ponce-Castro under arrest.

Ponce-Castro was charged with second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, obstruction of government administration, failure to obey a red traffic signal and for being an unlicensed operator. He was due to be arraigned on Oct. 21 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
