Recent Rockville Centre outages started by equipment failure

Posted

On Sept. 25 shortly after 2 p.m., a piece of electrical equipment failed in a manhole located on Sunrise Highway between Village and Park avenues. This initial outage caused a loss of service to about 560 customers. Service was restored to all but 50 customers in about one hour.

At 4 p.m. switching operations were required to isolate the damaged equipment, which caused an additional 80 customers to lose service for approximately 30 minutes.

Initial repairs were completed at approximately 11 p.m.

Additional repairs were needed that required intermittent service interruptions to approximately 500 customers. Crews worked through the night and service was fully restored at approximately 10:15 a.m. the following morning.

A spokesman for the Electric Department apologized for the inconvenience to its customers.
