Stop trolling for tickets

To the Editor:

While recently leaving my car for 35 seconds for a pick-up at St. Agnes Elementary School, I had a run in with our very stealthy code enforcement department.

I can’t thank them enough for the hefty $250 ticket for parking in a handicap spot with my hazards on. The truth is, I did park in the spot for a few seconds to grab my son, and I’ll pay your damn fine!

What burns me up is the fact that the enforcement officers are trolling an area with very limited parking to begin with, and pouncing on tax-paying residents just trying to pick up their kids. I saw two of our finest code enforcement workers around the area of St. Agnes right at dismissal time. Hmm, how convenient. It’s a lame act to generate revenue, and it needs to stop. Cut us a break!

Be careful out there, my fellow residents. A quick stop to grab a cup of joe, or a casual 24-second dry-cleaning pickup may result in a covert attack from the highly trained code enforcement department!

No issue with race

To The Editor:

In response to the opinion voiced last week regarding the Rockville Centre race on Saturday, Nov. 7 (“RVC race shouldn’t block services”), it is my opinion that Mayor Francis X. Murray and trustees of the Village of Rockville Centre are, and have been, good friends of Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David, and good friends of the Jewish community here in our town.

Whatever issues arose from the race, I am certain they will be addressed by next year’s race. I have spoken to the mayor and, indeed, plans for resolving the situation have been examined. Next year we have a bar mitzvah scheduled for race day, and I am certain this will be a non-issue.

Good people resolve issues by communication and cooperation, two practices that have always been at the foundation of the Jewish relationship with the Rockville Centre leadership.
