Rockville Centre’s Troop 40 spent two weeks at Onteora Scout Reservation in Livingston Manor, NY this August. Onteora — a Lenni-Lenape word meaning “land in the sky” — stretches over 1.400 acres in the Catskills and is owned and operated by Nassau County’s Theodore Roosevelt Council.
Young Scouts earned merit badges and learned how to build fires, find north without a compass and lash logs together, while older Scouts enjoyed day hikes and worked on service projects to benefit the camp and its surrounding area.
