Scouts raise funds for Sandy

At their May 12 meeting, Cub Scout Pack 31 of Rockville Centre presented a check for $403 to representatives of Project HOPE, a global outreach organization committed to providing long-term sustainable health care for those unable to secure it themselves.

The Scouts raised the funds washing cars last May, and Bonnie O’Connor, one of Project HOPE’s Oceanside representatives, said the money would be used to help families stricken by Sandy.

“It’s nice that someone thought of us, because we really are trying to help,” said O’Connor, who operates out of South Nassau Communities Hospital. “People really have seen their precious memories, their photos, just washed away. It’s been a long winter for them.”
