Residents of Rockville Centre gathered on Sept. 19 at the Village Green to honor the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, with a candle lighting vigil. During a rainy ceremony, residents walked pathways lined with hundreds of small American flags placed by Girl Scout Troop 848.

Residents Ginger Creegan, Karen Polito, Jean Higgins, Pat O'Brian, Liz Tighe and Theresa Cove read names of local residents and loved ones who were lost during the tragic attacks. Frank Colon, Commander of American Legion Post 303, performed Taps, and Mayor Francis X. Murray gave the closing remarks. Reverend David Grainson from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church led the closing prayer.
