After losing the second game of the season by six points to St. Vincent of Floral Park, the St. Agnes 7th Grade Girls B Basketball team went on a 10-game winning streak to finish the regular season in first place with an 11-1 record.

Carrying their momentum into the playoffs, the team defeated St. Anthony of Northport and St. Patrick of Smithtown before being presented with a rematch against St. Vincent in the Nassau/Suffolk Diocese Championship on Feb. 10 at Holy Trinity. St. Agnes avenged its earlier loss to St. Vincent in winning the Championship 31-25.

On March 9, the team participated in the Second Annual CYO Classic which matched the Nassau/Suffolk Diocese Champion against the Brooklyn/Queens Diocese Champion. Once again demonstrating the unselfish offense and suffocating defense that exemplified the season, the St. Agnes team defeated Nativity BVM from Ozone Park, 41-18.

In building an overall 15-1 record and successfully defending their Diocesan and Classic titles, the girls consistently supported each other and demonstrated true team work. Each of the 10 girls played a vital role in the success of the team with no player averaging more that six points per game.

The coaches, Frank Cecere and Tom Wagner, along with the parents, could not be more proud of their accomplishments and the manner in which they represented the Parish.
