The body of Lauren Daverin, an 18-year-old Lynbrook girl, was found on a Rockville Centre footbridge at about 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. Police have officially deemed her death a homicide.

Police said they received the call for the body at 10 p.m. Paramedics arrived at the scene and declared her dead at 10:15 p.m.

The girl’s body was removed and brought to the county medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

David Paiz, a 14-year-old Rockville Centre resident, said he found Daverin and called police.

According to Paiz, he was with Daverin earlier in the day and was hanging out with her and others at the footbridge. Paiz left and returned later.

“We were walking over on the bridge and we saw a body over there, so we walked toward it,” he said. “And then we called the police right away.”

Paiz said the body was naked except for boots and was in a “very awkward position.”

“She looked like she was kind of in a ball, and then there was blood next to the body,” he said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and have not yet released a cause of death. Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
