Tiger Scouts help clean up

Posted

Rockville Centre’s Tiger Scout den of first graders spent Saturday morning doing their part for the NYS Coast Cleanup at Hempstead Lake State Park. The fathers and the boys were saddened and surprised at all the garbage that gets wasted there.

There were mostly bottles, cans and styrofoam cups, but tires, mattresses and two hypodermic needles and animal remains were found and disposed of, too. To be safe, the boys never touched anything — they wore gloves and used shovels, pickers and rakes to collect the refuse.

The boys, and one girl, Ellie Clancy, never complained. They filled the bags and were proud of the effort and the result, and look forward to the badge they’ve earned.

Not everyone from Den 1 was able to make it to the clean up, but the ones that did were Den Leader Michael Clancy, Jack and Ellie Clancy, Kyle and John Couglin, Joe and Joey Hunsberger, and Michael and Jak Moreback.
