Posted

Steve Walsh has been serving the residents of the Rockville Centre for 37 years. Sworn into the Rockville Centre Fire Department on Feb. 13, 1979, Walsh was named “Man of the Year” in 2002 by his fire company, Woodland Engine Co. 4, for his outstanding service and dedication. He has had one of the highest call percentages of all members in his company.

Walsh began his career in the village’s Highway Department on Au. 19, 1981 maintaining parking fields in the village’s downtown as well as assisting with potholes and street repairs, street signs, leaf pickup in the fall and snow removal.

He has been a dedicated employee and has assisted wherever needed, including reporting during nor’easters, tropical storms and hurricanes. Walsh received the Nassau County Silver Award after pulling a semi-conscious man from the driver’s seat of a smoking vehicle in January 1992 while working in Parking Field 4.

“Steve has proven to be a dedicated and valued member of the Village of Rockville Centre workforce and will be sorely missed in his retirement,” said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
