Posted

Seaford schools delayed opening for two hours on Monday, Sept. 16 due to an alleged threat made through an undisclosed social media platform. Seventh Precinct Nassau County Police detectives have deemed the threat to be “not credible” after opening an investigation this morning.

Seventh Precinct officers remained at Seaford District schools throughout the morning. Police have deemed schools safe for students and staff to return. There are no further details on the threat itself, or the person who made the threat.

Seaford Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adele Pecora released this statement: "The District has been collaborating with the Nassau County Police Department regarding a potential social media threat.  It is safe for faculty and students to attend school today.  We will be following the two-hour delay schedule in all buildings.  As a precautionary measure, two patrol cars will be at each building throughout the day.  In addition, there will be no outdoor recess, senior privileges and outside gym classes today.  A determination will be made later today regarding after school activities.  The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance and we will continue to keep you informed.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation."

Nassau County Police and the Seaford School District will continue to work together to investigate this social media threat.
