Pot of Gold Hunt to urge shopping local

The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen announced a new campaign to encourage residents to shop at the village’s many local businesses.

“We hope highlighting our local businesses will increase awareness of the importance of buying local and provide valuable support to small businesses in our community,” said Chamber of Commerce President Christopher Acheson. “Over three-dozen of our local shops are participating this year.”

Children 12 and under can hunt for shamrocks hidden in participating stores throughout March for chances to win treats and prizes from store owners and the Chamber of Commerce.

“This is a fun and innovative way to connect youngsters with the lifeblood of our community, while also exposing their parents and grandparents to everything our community has to offer,” said Gillen, who lives in Rockville Centre. “It’s a great way for businesses to re-connect with the community.”

Numerous studies have shown that shopping locally generates more economic benefits to local residents and communities than shopping at national chain stores. For more information and a list of participating stores, please visit www.rockvillecentrechamberofcommerce.com.
