Repairs coming to Baldwin LIRR platform

After residents complained of the conditions at the Baldwin Long Island Rail Road station, the MTA told Assemblyman Brian Curran that repairs are on the way. “Improving the customer experience is one of my top priorities,” LIRR President Phillip Eng said in a letter to Curran, a Republican from Lynbrook, “and your report regarding conditions at Baldwin station was forwarded to the LIRR’s Stations and Engineering departments for review and appropriate action.”

Eng said the waiting room door, which was previously broken, has been repaired and the platform will soon undergo renovations. On the cleanliness of the station, Eng said the station receives Heavy-Duty cleaning along with pressure washing of the platforms and staircases.

Curran said he heard complaints about the station through the Internet, phone calls and in-person discussions with residents. “It was really all three,” he said. In a statement, he applauded the LIRR for its quick work. “I’m happy to see the LIRR is addressing some of the concerns brought to their attention by the residents and me,” he said.

An LIRR spokeswoman said Baldwin LIRR commuters should expect more changes in the near future. New benches, trash bins, USB charging ports and more will be brought to the station starting next month or October. The work is expected to be completed by December. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the station upgrade last year.
