The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce held its fourth Eat.Shop.Rock event last Saturday, which offered family fun and featured a variety of local vendors.
The street fair is designed to keep everything local, Chamber president Greg Schaefer said, as the vendors comprised of chamber members and other neighborhood businesses.
The event featured headlining performances from the School of Rock, Miss Colleen’s Elite Dancentre and other bands. Local eateries offered the hundreds of residents in attendance different tastes, as the fair also included free rides for kids.
The chamber worked with the Lions Club to raise $4,500 through a 50/50 raffle, which will go toward the all-inclusive playground planned for Rockville Centre’s Hickey Field. Each year, Schaefer said, the chamber also uses money raised at the event to fund about $5,000 in Molloy College scholarships for South Side High School students.
“It’s fantastic,” Schaeffer said of event’s growth over the last few years. “That’s what being a village is: keeping everything local, having residents come out and being able to call something their own and really enjoy it. It’s been great for me to see it happen, and all the businesses get involved and get behind it. It’s a great day.”
