Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray and the Board of Trustees have announced the formation of the RVC Foundation, which will accept tax-deductible donations to assist those affected by Hurricane Sandy, according to village spokesman Jeff Kluewer.

The RVC Foundation will work with the new group RVC Helping Others Means Everything, or HOME, which was created by residents to offer services and financial assistance to their neighbors who were impacted by the storm.

RVC HOME’s first fundraiser focused on collecting lanterns, flashlights and batteries for residents who were without power.

“Members of RVC HOME continue to assess our neighbors in need, primarily in the Oceanside, Island Park, Long Beach, Freeport and East Rockaway communities, who have been seriously affected by the devastation of Sandy,” Kluewer said. “Donations will allow RVC HOME to offer specific financial support, wholesome meals and, in some instances, the replacement of home essentials to these families.”

Checks can be made out to RVC Foundation and mailed to RVC HOME, P.O. Box 950, Rockville Centre, N.Y. 11571. Donations can also be dropped off at Village Hall, at 1 College Place. Those who want to learn more can call (516) 678-9260 or email H.O.M.E.SandyRelief@rvcny.us.
