From making pizzas to patrolling the New York City streets, veteran Mother Kelly’s Italian Café worker Brian Donohue is now a full-fledged New York City police officer. The news came following his graduation from the academy on March 30, where he finished within the top ten percent of his class — earning him a gold braid.

A third generation member of the family that owns and operates Mother Kelly’s, Donohue is the first to become a cop, according to his mother Veronica. Looking to do something different with his life outside of the Italian food business, the 26-year-old Molloy graduate decided to join the NYPD.

Mother Kelly’s, which has a Syosset location in addition to the one in Rockville Centre, has been serving Long Island customers since 1969. Donohue will be patrolling the streets of Far Rockaway as a member of the 101st Precinct.
