The Hempstead Town Board has unanimously approved the appointment of Village trustee Michael Sepe to its Public Employment Relations Board. His appointment came alongside two others including a village trustee from East Rockaway and a former to town Industrial Development Agency board member from Woodmere.

Sepe’s job on the board will be to make formal legal decisions on collective bargaining issues arising from CSEA Local 880, the union that represents the town’s public employees. The decisions will be based on state labor laws.

The appointment came about after the town approached Sepe for the position in January according to him. When asked if he was entering into the position with any hopes or goals in mind, he clarified that his task is to be as impartial as possible.

“My only goal is to protect the labor laws of New York state,” he said.

Sepe has been a village trustee since 2011 and his current term runs through 2019. He currently operates his own law office in the Rockville Centre.

“Mike Sepe is an outstanding public servant and the Town of Hempstead Public Employment Relations Board is fortunate to have him as a member," commented Mayor Francis X. Murray on the appointment. "Mike will bring a wealth of experience and sense of fairness to this Board, as he's done for our village and residents.”

The Town of Hempstead could not be reached for comment on the appointment.
