RVC Water Department begins hydrant flushing

Posted

The Rockville Centre Water Department will be flushing all of the village’s hydrants in the coming days.

The project began on April 26 for the area north of DeMott Avenue and lying between North Village Avenue to the end of the east territory. The rest of the hydrants will be flushed over a four-day period, excluding the weekend.

The flushing may cause some fluctuation of water pressure and/or discolored (rusty) water to flow into homes and businesses. Even though the water is safe to drink, it may stain laundry. Consumers are advised not to schedule projects, which require clear water, during the entire flushing period. The water will be both chemically and bacteriologically safe to drink when the work is complete.

The remaining flushing schedule is as follows:

• April 27, for the area between Lakeview Avenue and DeMott Avenue, west of Long Beach Road, from 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

• April 28 for the area between Sunrise Highway and DeMott Avenue, east of Long Beach Road, from 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

• May 1 for the entire area between Lakeview Avenue and Merrick Road, from midnight and 8 a.m.

• May 2 for the entire area of the village south of Merrick Road, from 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents with any questions are asked to call the Water Department at 516-678-9252.
