The Rockville Centre Youth Council was honored by Assemblyman Brian Curran on April 25 for their outstanding service to the community.

Curran presented council members Ryan Martirano, Isabelle Grillo, Kelsey Quinn, Paulina Kenny, Lilly Coll, Sarah Baylis, Ryan Harms and Chelsea Connolly with citations and New York state pins at his inaugural Youth Leadership Event, which honors local students for their commitment to the community.

Not present, but also honored were Paige Pusateri, Samantha Gallego, and Grace LaCava.

“The Rockville Centre Youth Council is comprised of distinguished teenagers who wish to give back to their community,” said Curran. “They volunteer countless hours to provide safe, fun and educational programming to other teens in the community. In addition, they hold anti- drug and anti-alcohol forums to fight youth substance abuse. One of the hardest things to do as a teenager in today’s world is to put one’s own needs and wants aside and think of others. These extraordinary young men and women do that on a daily basis and for that we are incredibly grateful.”

The event was held at the VFW in Lynbrook and former NFL football player Donny Brady delivered the keynote speech to the students.

The council brings together Rockville Centre teens with dedicated adults to prevent substance use by highlighting the dangers of underage drinking and illegal drug use. In carrying out this mission, the council provides educational programs, substance-free social activities, community service and social action opportunities. Adults make up our board of directors, but all of our organization’s officers are students at local public and parochial schools.
