South Side High School students who earned All-County accolades during the winter season were honored for their accomplishment at the Board of Education’s meeting on March 14.
Those celebrated included basketball players Ryan O’Shea, Matthew Trencheny, Gianna Mauro and Jenna Lopez; track and field athletes Carly Woelfel and Olivia Rodriguez; gymnasts Payton Waller and Erin Agoglia; swimmer Ryan Davidoff; and wrestler Kyle Mosher.
Woelfel, Rodriguez, Waller, Agoglia and Davidoff were also named state qualifiers.
Of all the athletes, Mosher, a junior, has grown most used to the accolade, as he has earned All-County in each of his five seasons, since he was in seventh grade. He breezed through the Nassau Division I 145-pound bracket for his second county championship last month.
South Side track coach Chris Webster introduced the athletes, adding that they have also done well in the classroom.
“I’m proud to mention that 100 percent of South Side High School’s winter athletic teams were all recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletics Association as scholar-athlete teams,” he said.
