Valley Stream schools closed for impending storm

The Valley Stream Central High School District announced on March 20 that schools in the district will be closed for the following day, when more than a foot of the snow is expected to fall throughout Long Island.

According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix of snow and sleet will turn into all snow around 9 a.m. on March 21. Snow accumulation in Valley Stream can reach about 18 inches.

Earlier in the day, Mayor Ed Fare posted on Facebook that Village of Valley Stream residents should not blow snow back into the road, and should keep their cars off the streets.

He also in a message to the Herald that the village's Department of Public Works will have 10 trucks going around the streets for a salting operation, then once the snow starts to accumulate, the village will have 15 trucks plowing the streets.
